BioBuzz Scorer for iOS, iPadOS, and Android. Effective September 16, 2026.

BioBuzz Scorer is a free scoring calculator and match timer for the FIRST Tech Challenge game BIOBUZZ, built by FIRST Tech Challenge Team 36633 Luminary. This page explains what the app stores, what it shares, and how to stop sharing.

The short version

What stays on your device

Every match you save, your settings, and your team number are stored only on your device, using Apple's SwiftData on iOS and iPadOS and a local database on Android. Deleting the app deletes them. Nothing on your device is read by us.

What is shared when you score a match

If "Share anonymous scores" is on (it is on by default), scoring a match sends these fields to a public Apple CloudKit database. The iOS app sends them to Apple directly; the Android app sends them through our own server, which forwards them to the same database and keeps nothing:

A match you score but never save is sent too, as soon as it has any points, marked as unsaved. This keeps the shared totals honest, because plenty of scoring happens at practice without anyone pressing Save. It stays out of your own match history and nothing about the app changes when it happens. A blank board with no points is never sent.

Once a day the app also sends a small record with the random ID, the date, the country, and the app version, so we can count active devices.

Usage counts

With the same switch on, the app sends a handful of anonymous events to Aptabase, a privacy-focused analytics service: the app was opened, a match was saved, the calculator was opened, the clock was started, a match was deleted. The “a match was saved” event also carries the same scoring numbers listed above: the totals, Auto and TeleOp points, foul points, hive tips, flowers owned, ranking point results, the winner, and which alliance was yours. It records whether you filled in a team number and an event name, but never the values themselves. Every event carries the app version, operating system version, device model, and a country derived from the connection at the moment of receipt, which Aptabase does not store with any identifier. There is no user ID, no device ID, no team number, and no tracking across apps. Aptabase's own policy is at aptabase.com/legal/privacy.

What is not collected

The random ID is not linked to you or your Apple or Google account, and we have no way to connect it to a person.

Why we collect it

To understand how BIOBUZZ matches are scored across teams and regions, to spot problems in the app, and to improve it. The data may be shared in aggregate, for example average scores by region, but never in a way that identifies a person.

Where the data goes

Shared records are stored in Apple's CloudKit public database for this app. Apple's handling of that service is covered by Apple's privacy policy. On Android the records pass through a small server we run on Cloudflare, which forwards them and stores nothing. Usage counts go to Aptabase as described above. No other third party receives anything.

How to turn sharing off

Open Settings in the app and turn off "Share anonymous scores". Nothing is sent after that, saved or unsaved, and usage counts stop the next time the app opens. Records already sent are anonymous and cannot be matched back to you, so they cannot be selectively deleted, but you can ask us to remove records for a given team number using the contact below.

Children

The app is built for FIRST Tech Challenge students, mentors, and volunteers. It does not ask for or knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new effective date.
